During her undergraduate degree, Lucy completed a 12-month industrial placement at Bayer Crop Science (Germany), establishing synthetic pathways towards active ingedients and metabolites of pesticides. Her final year project focused on the synthesis of difluoromethylated glycoside donors for N-glycosylation under the supervision of Prof. Glenn Burley. Lucy returned to the Burley group in 2022 to pursue her PhD in the development of small molecule ellipticine splice-switchers as inducers of apoptosis in collaboration with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
