Qualification:

Otto grew up in the Forest of Dean, England, before moving to Sheffield in 2019 to complete an MChem in Chemistry. His final-year project focused on the synthesis of novel saturated oxaborole compounds, under the supervision of Dr. Benjamin Partridge. He then moved to Glasgow to pursue a PhD in the Burley Group at the University of Strathclyde, completing it in 2024. His research focused on the synthesis of novel difluoromethylated building blocks for next-generation oligonucleotide therapeutics and included a three-month placement at GSK Stevenage in the Department of Chemical Biology. Since 2025, Otto has been employed as a Knowledge Exchange Associate with the Burley Group and the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, in partnership with the CPI Advanced Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MMIC) in Paisley.

Personal Facts

Outside of work, Otto has a keen interest in the great outdoors, particularly cycling, hiking and swimming in lochs. Otto likes to eat kiwis with the skin on for practical reasons, but don’t worry, he wipes them to remove the kiwi hair before hand (if that makes it sound any better to our readers).
